A New Studio

Up and running.

I spent three months at the end of 2021 renovating a studio I had built in 1999. The bottom three and a half inches had to be removed due to a termite infestation. The foot of the building was taking on water. The baseplate the walls sat on were cut out bit by bit and replaced. The floor was removed down to the cement pad. I had a new four inch pad poured on the inside and a sidewalk with a curb poured around the outside where water was coming in. I installed 4x8 sheeting on the inside, added new windows, painting racks, exhaust fan and work tables with lighting. As of the first of January 2022 I began painting in my new space!

Cement board siding that matches the house was installed.

I was worried about the small footprint of the building being adequate for my needs. But I’ve found my focus to be more intense in the smaller space. By reducing the amount of work tables down to three; large, medium and small, I have more room to move around in. Paintings are either being actively worked on or they are hanging on the wall. I see the paintings in a vertical orientation more often than I’m used to. My synthesizers have a dedicated, easy to use space. It has all come together to make a lovely space of solitude. I feel very fortunate and blessed to have this space.
